On January 25, 2011, Egypt erupted into hundreds of mass protests that made up the Egyptian Revolution. Thousands of revolutionaries stormed the streets to protest the decades of oppression, tyranny, poverty, and police brutality in Egypt. They demanded change, and they would wait for it no longer. To elicit such change and gather support for the cause, Egyptians turned to social media. Social media played an incredible role in the Egyptian Revolution. It was through Facebook that the protests were organized, and through Twitter the revolutionaries- as well as the rest of the world- were given live updates from the demonstrations.

My inquiry project explores the role of social media in the Egyptian Revolution. The various ways Facebook and Twitter aided the revolutionaries are discussed in detail, as are the profound effects the sites had on the Revolution itself.
